Cosmetic Procedures - Micro-PhlebectomyWhat is micro phlebectomy? Micro phlebectomy is a safe, in office, minimally invasive procedure for the removal of varicose veins. Who is a candidate for micro phlebectomy? People who have bulging veins that are non responsive to injection sclerotherapy. Who is NOT a candidate for micro phlebectomy? Patients who are allergic to the local anesthetic. Also, patients who cannot walk on their own or cannot wear compression stockings due to arterial circulation problems. How is the procedure performed? The doctor makes tiny incisions and removes the unwanted vein through these incisions. The area is then wrapped in a dressing that is kept on for 24 hours following the procedure. What are the potential side effects? Temporary bruising and swelling is typical. Incisions may darken before fading in some patients. Is there any downtime? Compression stockings will be worn for a week. Exercise other than walking should be avoided for one week. Alcohol and aspirin containing products should be avoided for 48 hours. Is this treatment permanent? The veins are physically removed and should not come back. However, new veins may develop over time. |
